The Process – Roof Replacement

White & Sons Ltd value ourselves on our expertise, and customer service. Most of the roof replacement projects that we undertake follow a similar process. Whilst there is some differentiation between each project, the below process is what can be expected for the majority of our roof replacement work.

(The information below fits into the “Work is carried out” and “Work completed” section of The Process.)

$

Scaffold is erected.

We arrange for the scaffold to be erected by competent companies, of which we have proof of all their insurances. We ensure that the scaffold companies that we use carry out the work to the high customer standards that we hold ourselves.

$

First delivery.

A first delivery of batten and (usually) a skip is delivered prior to our starting. This enables us to make a prompt start on our first day. Skips and all materials are placed with consideration to your home whilst allowing us to carry out the work as safely and promptly as possible.

$

Roof removal.

Our first day on site is the day that you can start to say goodbye to your problematic roof. On their arrival, our staff will introduce themselves and can answer any questions you may have. We remove the tiles, felt, and batten in sections focusing on one elevation at a time. We fit a breathable waterproof membrane/felt that ensures a waterproof covering for the duration of the works.

This is continued elevation by elevation until all existing roof coverings are removed.

Battening

Tile battens are laid and secured with galvanised nails.. Battens will be fitted in line with the tile manufacturer’s specification and also BS5534 Codes of Practice.

$

Tile delivery and loading.

Once a sample has been approved, a proportion of the tiles will be delivered. Using machinery where necessary, the tiles will be carried up onto the roof. The tiles will then be safely stacked on the roof to help with tiling.

$

Tile in the areas

With the roof loaded, the main areas are tiled in. Valleys, hips, and abutments are cut and secured with a sand and cement mortar. Tiles are fixed with the appropriate fixings.

$

Leadwork.

Leadwork to any chimney stacks, soil pipes, or abutment walls is carried out. We follow the Lead Sheet Associations guidelines for the installation of lead.

$

Clear site.

With the roof now finished, we re-inspect our work and carry out any remedial work if necessary. Once you are happy, we arrange for any skips and scaffold to be cleared away, with your home being left clean, tidy and free of debris.
